La Malfatta is a ranch located in Entre Los Rios province, in the country 4 hours away in the North of the capitale, Buenos Aires. It's Ivan, a 52 year old Argentinian who runs the farm and it's been a couple of years that he opens his doors to travellers from all around the world who come to work in exchange of free food and accomodation. Some stay for a few days, others can't leave and stay for months ! Anyway, it's a real community in the middle of nowhere where everyone contribute at the farm's daily life.
It got in touch with Ivan via Couchsurfing as I was looking for other travellers to rent a car to visit the North of the country. Ivan is the first person who replied to my add inviting me to join him and two French girls with whom he was about to start a roadtrip. I immediately accepted the invitation and I met Ivan in Buenos Aires who drove me to his farm where I stayed a week. Therefore I helped a bit with the daily tasks such as preparing the wood for the cheminey, feed the aninals and ploughing
Ivan's house is extremely warm and welcoming, one feels in its own house. In the evening we listen all kind of songs next to the fire :Francis Cabrel, Mercedes Sossa, everything ! People share the stories of their travels, on the wall they are drawings and words written by other travellers who passed in the house. I felt good.
At La Malfatta I met an American, Corrine and an Austrian, Franzesca with whom I got on pretty well. One day we walked to the closest shop which is about 1 hour away ! We had to go through fields and moody roads.
I also met the two French girls with whom I was going to do the roadtrip with Ivan : Laura and Cecile, two friends who had been living in the farm for a long time. One morning we had to plough a plot by hands !
I spent an amazing week at La Malfatta, it was an unexpected break which was more than welcomed before starting an intense roadtrip on the Argentinian roads.
